The Ananas comosus 'Rosita' is a tropical bromeliad plant native to South America — an ornamental variety of the edible pineapple family. Its long, narrow, dark green arched leaves form an elegant rosette that supports a true mini ornamental pineapple. This decorative fruit, first green then turning pink at maturity, remains spectacular for 3 to 6 months — a unique botanical curiosity indoors.
Non-toxic, delivered in its white ceramic pot with gold grid pattern included — a distinctive and warm container that naturally matches the exotic character of the plant. Discover it in our collection of original plants and in our plant gift selection.
Life cycle & ornamental pineapple
The Rosita Pineapple has a fascinating life cycle typical of bromeliads — the plant fully dedicates itself to producing its unique ornamental fruit. Find our guide on indoor plant life cycles and our flowering calendar to understand its stages.
- Ornamental pineapple: mini fruit 5 to 10 cm long that starts green then takes on pink hues at maturity — remains decorative for 3 to 6 months.
- Not edible: the pineapple is purely ornamental — do not consume.
- Monocarpic cycle: after fruiting, the mother plant produces suckers at its base then gradually declines — this is its natural cycle.
- Suckers: the seedlings produced at the base can be gently separated and repotted to propagate the plant.
The transition from green to pink in the pineapple takes several weeks — a fascinating decorative evolution to watch. To speed up the coloring, place the plant in an even brighter spot.
Exposure & placement
The Ananas Rosita loves bright light — it’s the main condition for the pineapple to develop its characteristic pink hues.
- Exposure: bright light to moderate direct sun — the brighter the light, the faster the pineapple will turn pink.
- Ideal: sunny windowsill, bright office, well-lit shelf.
- Temperature: 18 to 25 °C — enjoys warmth, avoid temperatures below 15 °C.
- Substrate: light and well-drained — bromeliad or orchid potting mix with perlite.
A south- or east-facing windowsill is its ideal spot — warmth and light combined speed up the ripening and coloring of the ornamental fruit.
Watering & care
Watering the Ananas Rosita is special — like all bromeliads, it is watered both through the substrate and the central leaf rosette.
- Substrate watering: moderate — keep slightly moist without soaking.
- Central rosette: pour a little water into the heart of the rosette between the leaves — this is the natural absorption method of bromeliads.
- Water renewal: change the water in the rosette every 2 weeks to prevent stagnation.
- Humidity: prefers 60 to 70% humidity — mist the leaves regularly.
- Fertilizer: every 6 to 8 weeks in spring and summer with diluted liquid fertilizer.
If the leaf tips brown, it’s a sign of air that’s too dry or water that’s too hard — use filtered or rested water and increase misting frequency.
Decor ideas & plant pairings
Its mini ornamental pineapple and slender rosette foliage create a unique sculptural plant presence — a conversation plant that consistently fascinates visitors.
- In combination: pair it with a Guzmania Hope or a Vriesea Elan for a composition made entirely of bromeliads with contrasting ornamental blooms and fruits. Find more ideas in our tropical plant pairing guide and discover our tropical plants collection.
- Pot included: the white ceramic pot with gold grid pattern is included — its contemporary and warm design naturally complements the exotic character of the plant.
- Atmosphere: perfect on a sunny windowsill, a bright shelf, or as a gift — its ornamental pineapple instantly creates a conversation piece.
Verdeia tips
- The pineapple is purely ornamental — unlike the edible pineapple, the fruit of the Rosita Pineapple should not be eaten. It is grown solely for its decorative value — its color, shape, and display duration make it a unique plant object indoors.
- Also water in the rosette — pour a little water between the leaves, at the heart of the rosette. This is the natural absorption method of bromeliads — they capture water that accumulates in their center in their natural habitat. Refresh this water every 2 weeks to avoid stagnation.
- The mother plant declines after fruiting — this is normal — it is the natural cycle of monocarpic bromeliads. When the mother plant starts to yellow, look for offsets (baby plants) growing at its base, wait until they reach 15 to 20 cm, and separate them to repot individually.
- Non-toxic for pets and children — Rosita Pineapple poses no risk in case of accidental contact or ingestion.
